An Operating System is the fundamental software that controls a computer. It handles how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, and the prioritization of apps if several run simultaneously. Each and every program that is installed on a computer functions by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be performed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting field, the Operating System is what controls a server as well as any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your machine as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and secure Internet hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also update the OS routinely in order to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
